What is the RRB Exam?

Indian Railway Exam is a group of examinations conducted for recruitment to various posts in Indian Railways. These examinations are conducted by Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) for various technical and non-technical posts. Types of Indian Railways Exams

Many types of examinations are conducted for recruitment to various posts in Indian Railways. Major examinations include the following.

RRB NTPC

NTPC stands for “Non-Technical Popular Category”. This examination is conducted for non-technical posts. This includes posts like Clerk, Account Assistant, Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard and Station Master. 

Qualification: Candidate must have Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.


Selection Process:

  • First Stage Computer Based Examination (CBT-1)
  • Second Stage Computer Based Examination (CBT-2)
  • Typing Test (for some posts)
  • Document Verification and Medical Examination

RRB Group D

This exam is conducted for Group D posts of Indian Railways which include Trackman, Helper, Gateman, Hospital Attendant, etc. It is one of the biggest recruitment exams.

Qualification: Candidate should have 10th pass qualification or ITI certificate.


Selection Process:

  • Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  • Document Verification and Medical Examination

RRB ALP

This examination is conducted for Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician posts.

Qualification: Candidate should have 10th with ITI or Engineering Diploma from a recognized institute.


Selection Process:

  • First Stage Computer Based Examination (CBT-1)
  • Second Stage Computer Based Examination (CBT-2)
  • Computer Based Aptitude Test (Only for ALP)
  • Document Verification and Medical Examination

RPF (Railway Protection Force)

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is an armed force responsible for the security of the Indian Railways, formed to ensure the security of railway property, passengers and platforms. RPF personnel are deployed to protect station premises, trains and railway tracks.

Qualification: For the post of Constable, the candidate must have passed 10th (Matriculation) from a recognized board.
For the post of Sub-Inspector, the candidate must have a graduation degree from a recognized university.

  • Document Verification and Medical Test

RRB JE

This examination is conducted for Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent and other technical posts.

Qualification: Candidate must have a degree or diploma in engineering.

The application process for Indian Railways exam is completely online. Candidates have to apply by visiting the official website of Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) or Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC). Keep the following information in mind while filling the application form:
